Settings

Finding your way around

Opening Settings replaces the app sidebar with a settings sidebar, and shows one page at a time. The back button at the top returns to the session you were on, and the last page you used is remembered.

  • Search: the box in the sidebar finds individual settings, including by related words. "obsidian" finds the Markdown folder and "mic" finds the microphone. Settings also appear in the search palette (Cmd+K or Ctrl+K).
  • Shortcuts: Cmd+, or Ctrl+, opens Settings, Esc leaves, and Cmd+F or Ctrl+F searches settings.
  • Dots: a dot on a page flags a problem on that page. License shows a Trial badge during your trial.
  • Advanced: rarely needed settings are folded away under Advanced.

Recording

  • Input device: your microphone. If you connect a new device, it appears in the list automatically. Test microphone shows volume levels before you record.
  • Recording quality: the quality of saved recordings.
  • Include system audio: captures audio output from your computer. On Windows, System audio device picks which output to capture, for example the headset your meeting app plays through. If a saved device disappears, recording uses the default output and tells you.
  • Detect speakers: labels transcript lines as Me or Other by comparing your microphone with system audio. Turn it off if lines are often mislabeled. Name speakers afterwards.
  • Show recorder when recording starts and Recording shortcut (default CmdOrCtrl+Shift+R).
  • Keep audio files: when disabled, MeetingDebrief deletes the recording after transcription. When enabled, you can set a retention period in days (0 keeps files forever).

Transcription

  • Transcribe when recording stops: starts transcription automatically.
  • Live transcription: shows a transcript while you record. It may be less accurate than the final transcript.
  • Transcription model: download, select, or delete speech models. Switching models does not affect existing transcripts. See Transcription.
  • Tell remote speakers apart (preview): splits Other into up to four remote speakers. See People and speaker names.
  • GPU acceleration: on macOS with Apple Silicon, Metal is used automatically. On Windows with an NVIDIA CUDA-compatible GPU, download the CUDA worker here. This can make processing up to 10x faster.
  • Install models from files: for networks that block model downloads.
  • Keep Parakeet loaded (Advanced): how long Parakeet stays in memory between uses.

Dictation

Turn dictation on or off, set its shortcut (default Control+Alt+D), choose how it starts and stops, whether it pastes for you, whether it removes filler words, sounds, muting other audio, where the dictation window appears, and how long dictation audio is kept. See Dictation.

AI & Summaries

  • Where summaries run: on this computer, or on a server you already run.
  • Summarize when transcript is ready and Default summary template: generate a summary automatically after transcription. This works independently of automatic transcription.
  • Summary language: Same as the meeting by default, or force a specific language.
  • Summary model: download, select, or delete summary models.
  • Summarization engine (Advanced): the local engine that runs summary models.

Templates

Create and edit summary templates. See Summarization and templates.

Vocabulary

Add the names, acronyms, and jargon MeetingDebrief should spell correctly, and set up advanced corrections. See Vocabulary.

General

  • Appearance: choose System to follow your operating system, or pin MeetingDebrief to Light or Dark. Every window follows the choice.
  • Time format: 12 or 24 hour.
  • Performance priority: Full (fastest results), Balanced (shares resources with other apps), or Background (minimal impact on other apps).
  • Run setup again: restarts the setup process, for reconfiguring permissions or re-downloading models. Your sessions and data are not affected.

Storage

Move recordings and the Markdown copies of your transcripts and summaries to a folder of your choice, such as an external drive or your Obsidian vault.

  • Recordings folder: recordings are always captured locally first and moved when they're finished, so an unplugged drive never costs you a meeting.
  • Markdown folder: files are only rewritten when their content changes, so edits you make in a notes app survive restarts.
